Flexible Exports in South Australia: what it means for your solar

· 2 min read

In South Australia, how much solar you can send to the grid used to be a fixed limit. Flexible Exports changes that.

The short version

  • Fixed limit: 1.5 kW, all day, every day.
  • Flexible Exports: up to 10 kW per phase when the grid has room.
  • On the few busy times the grid is full, your exports are dialled back for a while.

Why it matters

With a fixed 1.5 kW limit, a lot of the solar you make at midday is simply wasted. Flexible Exports lets more of it reach the grid, so a larger system earns more.

What you need

  • An inverter that supports Flexible Exports.
  • An internet connection for the inverter.
  • An installer who sets it up and registers it.

Every inverter we install is ready for Flexible Exports, and we handle the setup.

Does it change my feed-in tariff?

No. Your retailer still sets what you are paid per kWh. Flexible Exports only changes how much you are allowed to send.
