The 2026 battery rebate in South Australia, explained

If you are thinking about a home battery, 2026 is a good year to do it. A federal incentive takes a large share off the price, and you do not have to claim it yourself.

How the incentive works

Batteries earn certificates called STCs, the same kind solar panels earn. The number depends on the battery's usable size.

  • 6.8 certificates per usable kWh, for the first 14 kWh.
  • Fewer certificates for capacity above 14 kWh.
  • The installer claims them and takes the value off your quote.

For a 13.5 kWh battery that is about 91 certificates, roughly $3,580 off. On a typical home battery that is around 30% of the price.

Why the finish date matters

The rate applies to installs finished by 31 December 2026. It steps down on 1 January 2027 and keeps dropping each year after. If you want a battery, getting it installed this year saves the most.

What your battery needs

  • It must be able to join a virtual power plant (VPP). Joining is optional.
  • It must be installed by an accredited installer.
  • It must be a battery on the approved product list.

Every battery we fit ticks all three, so the incentive is already off the price we quote.

Is there a South Australian rebate as well?

Not right now. The federal incentive is the main support for SA homes in 2026. We will update this page if that changes.

Certificate prices move with the market, so the exact dollar amount can shift a little. Your written quote shows the final figure.
