The right size is the one that matches how your home uses power. Bigger is not always better, especially when exports earn little.
Start with your bill
Your bill shows how many kWh you use each day. Most of the value of solar comes from using it yourself, so look at how much you use in daylight hours.
- Home in the day, or running a pool pump: you use more of your solar.
- Out all day: more of your solar is exported, unless you add a battery.
- Planning an EV or heat pump: size up now, it is cheaper than adding later.
A quick guide
- 6.6 kW: most two to three person homes with a quarterly bill up to about $600.
- 10 kW: larger families, pools, ducted air or an EV.
- Add a battery: when most of your use is in the evening.
Our savings calculator gives you a suggested size from your quarterly bill in a few seconds.
Your roof matters too
North and west faces work best in Adelaide. East-facing panels still work well, especially for morning use. Shade from trees or a second storey can cut output, so we check it on site before we size anything.
Exports and size
With Flexible Exports you can send up to 10 kW per phase to the grid when it has room, instead of a fixed 1.5 kW. That makes a slightly larger system easier to justify.
We will tell you when a smaller system is the better buy. Honest sizing is part of the quote.
